abstract This British Geological Survey (BGS) marine geophysical survey took place in August/September 1973 in the northern Moray Firth on board the SS Profiler. The purpose was 1. To assess the radiometric eel as a viable piece of offshore research equipment. 2. To ascertain the compatability of the radiometric eel with other routine geophysical equipment, namely sparker, pinger, magnetometer, gravimeter and transit sonar. 3. To survey an area where good geological control already existed (from previous work by CSU II and MGU), with the view to a geological assessment of the radiometric results. Geophysical data were collected using Pinger; Sparker; Gravity and Transit sonar equipment, completed 710km of survey lines. Seabed samples were acquired using a cone dredge, additional geochemical sampling was undertaken on Survey 1973/SF/17. Survey details contained in BGS report WB/MI/73/6C.
